One of the most common questions we have from churches who want to get outside into the community with an outreach coffee shop is, “How will this impact our church’s non-profit status if we are selling products to the public?”

We consult with a lot of churches across the US and last summer we sat down with Pastor Aaron Dininny and OV Church in Norfolk, VA. who opened a community outreach coffee shop called Coaster Coffee with our consulting assistance and are now a robust client of our coffee roasting side as well. Burr grinders are the benchmark for brewing consistent coffee day after day in coffee shops and at home around the world and for good reason: they produce consistent granular coffee.
Conversely, blade grinders are essentially equivalent to “food processors” in so many kitchens. Put an onion in your food processor and run in for 10 seconds and you get nicely chopped onion for your pizza. Run the processor for 30 seconds and you get onion puree.
